We have our first independent reader!
To become an independent reader, students must get 10 points on AR. They read a book and take a test on the computer, most books give them 1/2 of a point (depending on the grade they make), so it takes about 20 books to become independent! Once they have their ten points, they have to make sure their last three tests scored a 100, or they have to continue working until they get three 100's in a row! Once all requirements have been mastered, we celebrate! The student will get a t-shirt, and we will sing and dance in every first grade class, as well as get out of the treasure box in every first grade class! This is a BIG deal! After achieving Independent, they work toward being a Super Reader. To be Super, they must have 20 or more points, with 3 books worth 1 point or more. These are usually Curious George, Magic Tree House, Junie B. Jones, or other more challenging books! |
